Bypass Administrator Password Macbook Pro

I just bought this 2010 MacBook Pro from a friend (because my other one was stolen, boooo!) and he doesn't remember the administrator password!! He set it up a while ago to not be able to reset password using Apple ID, so that option is out. I do have installer disk but suggested way(s) of changing password via restarting didn't work, I'm thinking maybe since it is from original software (Snow Leopard) and now it has Mavericks......?

Administrator passwords prevent your Mac from being modified by regular users, but forgetting it can cause you to get locked out of your computer. Knowing how to find the administrator password on a Mac or resetting it altogether will save you time and hassle.

This is a good alternative if that user was an administrator for the machine. However, if the user was not an admin for the machine, you should make sure to reset an admin's password as well (or to reset a root password as I did above). You can repeat passwd as many times as you need for various users. Just make sure to reset at least one account that has admin privileges. That way you have not only a user's password, but administrative access to the machine.

MacBooks have two types of password, user and administrator. User passwords allow each person using the computer to prevent others from changing their settings and viewing their information. In addition to serving this function, administrator passwords prevent anyone other than the administrator from downloading and installing new programs or resetting user accounts. MacBooks also come in three basic types, the MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. The procedure for resetting administrator passwords on the Air differs from that of the other MacBooks.

If you have your administrator password and have to reset a user password, the procedure is the same regardless of what type of MacBook you're using. This is because Apple allows the administrator permissions in terms of account settings that it doesn't offer to regular users. You can access the password reset feature by logging into the administrator account, opening "System Preferences" from the Apple menu and choosing "Accounts." Click the padlock icon if it is in the locked position, select the account you want to reset, press "Reset Password" and enter a new password.

Apple doesn't give users the permission to reset an administrator password. If you forget your administrator password on a MacBook or a MacBook Pro, you need a Mac OS installation disk to reset it. When you insert the disk, the computer gives you either an Install or a Restore option. Selecting these provides access to either a Utilities or an Installer menu, depending on what version of Mac OS you're using. In these menus is a password reset feature. Selecting this feature opens a dialogue box that allows you to reset the administrator password.

Unlike the MacBook and the MacBook Pro, the MacBook Air doesn't have a disk drive. For this reason, if you forget your MacBook Air administrator password, you'll need a Mac OS installation disk and a second Mac computer or a PC with the Mac CD/DVD Sharing software installed. The exact procedure for the password reset differs depending on the computer type and Mac OS version. However, in all cases you access the reset instructions by inserting the disk into the second computer and choosing "Remote Install Mac OS X" from the Utilities menu.

An administrator account on a Mac cannot be accessed without a password. A new admin account may be created without a password, which can be used in place of the old admin account. If the old account needs to be accessed, the password can be reset and certain files can be found on iCloud.

4. Type a new password for selected account and reenter it to verify. Click Change Password and the Mac admin password would be reset or removed if you don't type any password for administrator account.

It will guide you how to reset Mac admin password with built-in password reset tool on Mac. And it always works even though you have no another administrator or have not associated admin account to Apple ID. 2ff7e9595c
